Walk-ins are welcome when there's space, but we'd rather you booked. We never take more than 15 cruise guests a day, so on a busy day there may be nothing left. The house is open to anyone, by the way — cruise or not — and there are seven rooms if you'd rather stay the night.
Not at the moment. The day here is built around a hundred metres of Caribbean and a coral reef 150 metres offshore. If a pool is what you're after for the day, one of the resorts closer to the port will serve you better than we will.
8:30 to 20:30, Monday to Friday, November through April. Your pickup and return are scheduled around your own ship's times. We're at El Placer, km 25.5, on the coastal highway between Mahahual and Xcalak, 77976 Quintana Roo — 30 minutes north of the cruise port on the paved road.
Not inside the port. There's a public beach area in Mahahual town, about ten minutes by taxi, and the malecón in front of it. It's free to walk on, though the chairs and umbrellas belong to the restaurants and you're expected to order. It gets busy when several ships are in, which is most days of the week. Mexican law makes every beach public, so what really varies is how many people are on it.
Cozumel is bigger, busier and has more of everything. Costa Maya is emptier, wilder and cheaper. If your itinerary includes both, most people find Cozumel is the day for shopping and diving, and Costa Maya is the day for actually being on a beach.
